Different forms of gold serve different purposes.
01
UK legal-tender coins
Britannias & Sovereigns
Recognisable and available in flexible sizes. Qualifying investment coins are VAT-exempt. Sterling legal-tender Britannias and Sovereigns are also exempt from Capital Gains Tax.
02
Investment gold bars
Efficient physical ownership
Bars can provide an efficient route to larger amounts of physical gold, often with a lower product premium per gram than smaller coins. Qualifying investment gold bars are VAT-exempt.
03
Certified coins
Metal value, grade & scarcity
The price may reflect condition, grade, scarcity and demand—not only the gold content. The basis of valuation and future buyback should be clearly explained before you decide.
Tax treatment depends on individual circumstances and may change. Product premiums, availability and resale values vary.
Before you buy
A good decision starts with five clear answers.
The aim is not simply to buy gold. It is to buy the right gold, for a clear reason, with ownership and future sale understood.
01
What should it achieve?
Purchasing-power protection, diversification, tax efficiency, direct ownership or legacy? The purpose shapes the product.
02
How much remains liquid?
Gold should not replace emergency funds or money required for foreseeable spending. Keep sufficient accessible cash.
03
What is the full price?
Know the live gold price, product premium, delivery or storage costs and the amount of physical gold you will own.
04
Where will it be kept?
Understand delivery, allocated storage, insurance, access, ownership records and any ongoing charge.
05
How will it be sold?
Ask how valuation, authentication, settlement and buyback work before you purchase—not years afterwards.
